Mater Dei High School Reviews
Rating 4.17 out of 5 586 reviews
My experience at Mater Dei was one of perspective and understanding. Transferring a smaller middle school to a much larger High School was an interesting development. I would say overall Mater Dei provided a surreal experience in the fact that the large amount of diversity among the students of curricular as well as academics gave a rather significant boost to understand college life and to understand people's interests. While there were flaws such as some teachers and the religious institution wasn't always the most welcoming, it still provided different activities like Robotics, a variety of sports, Theatre, and other visual arts. It was the best school for me to go to because it really brought me into a more social and vibrant environment that allowed me to observe and fully do activities that I would've never done if I had been at a different school.
I was the first of my family to attend Mater Dei and I fell in love with the school. I made so many great memories from the football games to the amazing friends I made. I thought the classes prepared me for college tremendously and made it very easy to transition into college. Although, the tuition is expensive I think every penny was worth it. The teachers were amazing and always made the subjects fun and exciting to learn about. I think the opportunities I received by being a Mater Dei Alumni also made the high school worth it. When you become a Monarch you will always be a Monarch and everyone in that community is aware of that. You are not only joining a school, you are joining a great big family! Go Monarchs!
Overall, I enjoy that Mater Dei allows for opportunities involving several of activities—including performing arts, sports, academic decathlon, and more. However, I feel that the in class experience was mostly subpar. In general, the English and Arts departments have wonderful teachers, the social studies and language departments have a good mix of amazing and simply okay teachers, and the Math department has awful teachers. Additionally, the counselor support system is quite good. However, the environment of the school in general is quite lacking. School spirit is bad and student support isn’t great.
