I came into MLK for freshman year during 2020, starting virtual and then transitioning to partially in person. One of the first things you really notice about MLK is the community that's been built there. It's so easy to find your people, and the teachers are amazing and welcoming- as are the students. Everyone is very accepting, regardless of your looks or hobbies or sexuality or skin color. I also want to specifically point out how amazing some of the teachers are. They are incredibly supportive, encouraging, understanding, and passionate about what they do. MLK is also very focused on preparing students for college and being able to contribute to society, through frequent meetings and online resources for parents and students alike. I will say, the administration does not always listen to the student body. And will make questionable decisions regarding some policies. But otherwise, I've loved my 4 years here and I'm honestly sad I'll be leaving soon.
I love Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School so much! I have been attending the school since the 7th grade and ever since then, I have made amazing friends, challenged myself, had memorable experiences, and have grown as a person, whether that's intellectually or socially.
I thoroughly enjoy my time at Martin Luther King Academic Magnet. The teachers, staff, and admin are all invested into the students' education, and many teachers take extra time during and after school to help students struggling in topics. The culture is extremely diverse, including over 53 spoken languages and ethnicities from all over the world. The school provides multiple chances for students to explore themselves and be a part of communities. Many teachers have their Master's degree and there are many courses taught here that other schools in the area do not offer.
