Martha Layne Collins High School Reviews
Rating 3.66 out of 5 164 reviews
I absolutely love my school! I've had such a great experience with Collins High, between the material I learned over the past four years, the relationships I formed, and the connections I made. For such a small town, where Collins is located, the school has so much to offer students in terms of extracurricular activities (like clubs and athletics) as well as pathways (which help students carve a path towards future careers), and sometimes when I think about it, it still surprises me. Collins High, in my opinion, sets students up so well for what comes after graduation, whether we choose to go straight into the working world or onto higher education, we leave high school either prepared for one or prepared for both. Along with all of this, all of the teachers I have had in high school are absolutely the best! They're always working hard for us students so we can learn in the way we know best, whether it be hands-on or verbal learning, or otherwise.
It's a great school! The staff cares about you, and the teachers want to make sure that you succeed. The school's mission is to graduate every student college or Career ready through Positive Collaboration, Systems of Support, and a Committment to Excellence for all.
The school lacks some English curriculum that goes over the basic fundamentals needed for college. Several include MLA format, citations, and basic language understanding. They do make this up with the specialty programs that you have to graduate from (at least one). The programs include biomedical, business, engineering, the arts (music, art, theater), etc. Martha Layne Collins is one of the few schools in Kentucky to offer the AP capstone diploma. The school offers this along with many other AP classes such as language, science, math, and English classes. They have the money to redo the track and field but not enough to fix the school lunches, bring up teachers pay, or ensure that they are using the curriculum to the max, ensure all of the students are prepared to go to college. Although all of this isn’t the best Collins is better off than many other schools.
