I was the new kid when I first came to Martha Ellen Stilwell. I came in as a Junior which normally is not allowed however, they let me in and I enjoyed my time there. I loved the students and teachers. They made me feel very welcomed, and they always had faith in me. They taught me so many things I can take with me in life. They really paid attention to their students.
Something I wish I could change about the school is the diversity, I think diversity is very important but we did not really have it at the school. I also wish we could change the way some of the teachers taught, sometimes the other kids don't understand as fast and there should be a way for the students to learn something with a different technique. It doesn't have to be one strict way! But, other than that the experience I had there is not one I shall forget.

I've found that I've become more and more passionate about my major/minor, however, the academics at the school do stunt my artistic growth and passion regularly. I understand that academics are required no matter which school you attend, however, there's a great imbalance of importance between the arts and academics. Stilwell definitely values academics over the arts, which's ironic considering it's an art school, so if you're thinking about attending Stilwell, beware, you'll still have a lot of schoolwork! Furthermore, sometimes there's a lack of sympathy from the administration and teachers for the student's wellbeing. That student may be dealing with hours of in-school and after-school practices, have huge responsibilities outside the school, etc. but will continuously be piled with work from teachers that are encouraged by the administration. Despite everything I said, Stilwell is a great school, and if you're passionate about the arts, I'd definitely recommend this school.
Martha E. Stilwell is such a great place. Some of my best memories were made here. We just a got a new principal in my senior year and she turned the school into a whole new beast. I mean it's genuinely amazing. If you have an option between another school and this one, pick this one. The teachers genuienly care and the will give you every resource you need to succeed. Every fine arts department does an amazing job of elevating their students from 9th-12th grade. The school is always clean because the custodians take pride in what they do. Overall, this school gets a 5/5 from a proud alum of THE Martha E. Stilwell School of the Arts.
