Initially, I transferred from another county school due to bullying. My former school offered little to no support for the arts and students who were different than the norm. I heard slurs on the daily, and it truly affected my ability to learn. Marion high school opened up a whole other world for me. They partnered with CSA, the local arts organization, to offer a half day art school and half day regular school schedule which allowed me to pursue my craft even more. The support I received was monumental in my art journey. It’s a lower income school, so I wish the classrooms were a bit nicer and my teachers received more support. The environment was much more accepting, and the staff values diversity and inclusion to the highest degree. I would not have changed anything about my experience there.
It was an amazing experience academically and athletically. I was able to earn so many college credits that prepared me for my next journey. If you stay on task and do what you need to do you will be very successful. I was proud to call Marion High School my home and even more prouder to be a part of the IWU Wildcats!
