Marine Academy of Technology & Environmental Science Reviews
Rating 4.3 out of 5 176 reviews
The Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science offers a rigorous and comprehensive education with the application of using marine science programming. The research experience at this level is invaluable as future students of STEM, and the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and their delivery of the curriculum is superior especially in preparation for higher education while also being extremely relatable to the class cohorts. The school community is close -knit, inclusive, familial and one of teamwork. Although, there are no varsity athletic clubs, there are many after school activities encompassing a wide span of interests and experiences, not to mention if a student wants to start a club, they can easily make happen too! MATES is an amazing and non-intimidating environment for learning, expanding a wealth of knowledge through exploration and advancements in an ever changing world! We are so grateful to be part of this institution!
Overall, I’d say my experience at the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science (MATES) was a pleasant one. The student body and staff are very welcoming to new students and the academics at this institution are certainly exceptional. Stress may be an issue at times for some students, however, stress management is probably the biggest lesson you are taught at this school. Now that I am graduating, I feel more than prepared to take on the challenges college might bring me. The other downside to this high school is the extremely small class size. My graduating class of 2024 will have around 63 students. While this is good in some regards, like how everyone knows each other, it also limits a students ability to develop their social skills and form extra lifelong friendships with a larger student body. Overall, I’d say MATES is probably one of the greatest high schools in the state. I would recommend it highly to any student willing to put in the effort for their education
The teachers here are great! This school will definitely prepare you for college. The biggest downside to this school is the lack of classes offered. Everyone takes the same marine science based classes, there are not many options for students interested in other science fields.
