My daughter attended MMS from grades 4-8 and had a wonderful experience. The program instilled confidence, intrinsic motivation and a deep love of learning. The focus on self-advocacy and leadership has set her up extremely well for high school and she is thriving. Could not say enough great things about the culture of the school. The junior high is the most magical undiscovered program in Marin!

Review Marin Montessori School

I think this is the best Jr. High program in the Bay Area . What makes it stand apart is the way it teaches adolescents how to think critically and deeply by having them work and learn in a variety of challenging and real-world ways. On the one-acre farm, students plant and harvest, take care of farm animals, build a hoop house and shingle a roof, and solve tangible problems (how to keep predators away from the chickens, for instance, or how to design the hydroponic tanks?). Students apply to become managers of the microeconomy program, the apiary, the farm--real jobs--and have complete access to and responsibility for a fully working kitchen, an integrated arts building, and the classrooms themselves. They are encouraged to research deeply, ask questions, and master their subjects, from algebra and geometry to biology, chemistry, great literature, and composition. They are also taught how to handle conflicts with grace and courtesy, just as Maria Montessori designed.

Marin Montessori has nurtured our children's curiosity, fueling their learning of academics and also of life. We are blown away by the invaluable life skills that our kids are gaining - collaborating with their peers, guiding their own work, discovering how they learn best as an individual, experiencing the joy of solving a problem after truly struggling with it, meaningfully contributing to a community - which few schools are set up to instill in children. Most importantly, they have developed a love of learning and truly enjoy going to school. We are pleased knowing that when our kids graduate from Marin Montessori, they will be kind, capable, and confident to pursue their dreams.
