Marathon is a small, tight knit community that thrives on achievement. Sports are a huge part of the high school, specifically basketball. With the teacher-student ratio being high, students are able to excel in classes because they are able to get the help they need. Overall Marathon has a great learning atmosphere.

Love my school and all the teachers that are so active in the students learning. The teachers always look out for the student bear intreat and do their best to help the student. Lots of teacher even stay after school to help students if they need it and teachers give extra time to complete assignments to students involved in working.
I'm not going to deny it: Marathon High School has great academics and sports. Most of the teachers are very smart individuals and the ones that aren't, well, not everyone can be great. This seems to be a fact that a majority of the student body has forgotten, however. There is a lot of pressure to succeed -- everyone here, it seems, is here to get good grades and not necessarily to learn. Many of the "smart" kids are memorizers, plain and simple. And the same goes for the high ACT scores as well.

Because of the small town atmosphere, the students are EXTREMELY gossipy. If you are even vaguely different, you will not be accepted. This means that if you are not athletic/participate in sports and don't have 3.5+ GPA, you will likely not be considered cool enough to join the popular kid clique. Of course, these are present at every school, but again, at such a small school, it is intensely concentrated.

Would I say I learned stuff here? Well, yeah. If you're somewhere for about seven hours a day five days a week you're bound to learn something. But I still hated going here due to my social anxiety and the highly judgmental social scene. I wish I could have gone to a high school where people are accepting and there is these great of academics. But you know...wish in one hand...
