Maranatha High School Reviews
Overall, Maranatha provides a unique intersection of religious involvement and stimulating academics. Like most schools, it depends on how involved you are. Maranatha as a school provides outlets to explore almost every interest with excellent sports teams, an award winning speech and debate program, STEM/Tech labs, and a preforming arts program run by passionate teachers who have professional experience in the music/theatre world. The school itself offers a tolerant atmosphere where one can create their own clubs, express themselves freely, and make long lasting relationships with peers and teachers. One of the most meaningful programs I participated in was an international service trip to Greece where I was exposed to the reality of the Middle Eastern Refugee crisis. Maranatha continually provides this type of cultural exposure with countless other trips and community service engagements that foster compassion and social awareness.
In the 4 years I was there, we had 3 different headmasters and turnover of at least 30 teachers and 3 different spiritual leaders. If you can’t keep people at your school for at least 4 years, something is seriously wrong. The school was extremely sketchy in their image. They made sure anything that could damage their overall image was dealt with in private and quietly instead of learning from their mistakes and teaching their students to do better. There are certain teachers (and leaders) who have horrible boundaries with their students and dangerous. Maranatha is known for their “caring” teachers, and I will admit that I had some amazing teachers who really turned into mentors (the english and performing arts department when I was there was EXCELLENT), but there were plenty of teachers who had 0 emotional boundaries with their students. I haven’t even mentioned the entitled racist culture...overall I wouldn’t recommend Maranatha unless they change.
I LOVED maranatha. Right now I’m a high school senior and moving on from this place is tough because it really became my home. The teachers and faculty are great and they really care about their students. There are people of all kinds of backgrounds because this school gives generous financial aid. Everyone here is different, but it’s easy to find friends because everyone’s just looking to have a good time. And the academics aren’t too challenging or too easy. Maranatha is a perfect mix of everything. And even though it’s a Christian school, people from different religious backgrounds are also welcomed and appreciated.
