The teachers here are really dedicated to their students and to the subjects they teach, there are also plenty of resources for students to use; however, the general school culture is not supportive for students who don't fall within the traditional, rural, conservative value of the school. The administration is also resistant to change and holds their students back from higher levels of academic sucess, there are VERY FEW oppurtunities for students who seek academic challenge or are who would benefit from high level classes. restrictive course oppurtunities for college bound students.

My experience at Glen Lake was a mix of great and bad. The community is tight knit, and the majority of my teachers were phenomenal. Many are memorable people who really get to know each student on a personal level and truly care about their success. Because it is a small school, the staff to student ratio is exceptional.
There is a variety of clubs and activities offered, and many that are very involved in the community and offer great opportunities. However, I do believe that this school has a huge issue with focusing too heavily on sports... The funding for sports is incredibly disproportionate compared to what's spent on education and the arts. As a class C (maybe D) school, unfortunately even the most exceptional athletes haven't ended up playing for large division A schools. There needs to be a culture shift at this school, with more focus on college or career readiness. Otherwise, it is in a beautiful area and has great teaching staff.
Both of our kids attended and graduated from Glen Lake. One of our kids needed learning assistance. Glen lake was excellent at providing things needed to achieve a successful level of learning. Our second child was successful with academics but had issues with bullying that is in most schools these days. We had to be and had to encourage our student to be proactive and willing to speak with the councilors and Administration when something occurred. It was a long road. Academics were held at a high standard at Glen Lake and prepared our students well for college.
