Manhattan Beach Middle School Reviews

It is a pretty good school. I had an okay experience there. The traffic when school gets out is awful. Most of the teachers were nice. But I do know some people who had terrible teachers there. The workload was a shock to me in sixth grade. Transitioning from elementary school to middle school was pretty difficult. Overall, I think this school is better than some of the other middle schools I've heard about.
My best memories come from the English and Humanities department. They helped shape my love for writing, and the teachers were amazing.
MBMS is the only middle school in Manhattan Beach. Five grammar schools have 5th grade classes that move into the school - quiet a different experience and student population from what the kids are used to. There is an unarmed police officer on campus at all times, along with staff and parent volunteers at lunchtime. The kids have the option of playing organized sports at lunchtime, and/or doing other classroom activities. Many teachers eat lunch in their classrooms and let the kids hang with them in the classrooms at nutrition break and lunchtime. There are two full time nurses - they are responsible and responsive to the needs of the students. They are also very caring. My kids have not had any issues with bullying nor have I ever heard of any. Middle school kids are quirky and going through tremendous changes - the staff gets that, they will all tell you that they love working with kids this age - and welcome the challenges with a smile.
