The teachers that I have encountered have been extremely helpful and care about the students' well being. They ensure that their students have retained information and try their best to keep their students engaged. As a learning environment, the teachers and staff do a great job. The students, however, are a bit reckless, but the staff really do try their best in maintaining peace throughout the school. Although, the staff can only do so much to control the students. Overall, I have had many great academic opportunities, experiences, and resources here at Maine West that I am grateful for and have helped me throughout my high school career to prepare me for college and other future experiences.

The overall student atmosphere is average at best. Student body is very unsupportive of the fine arts, and overall very disrespectful to authority during assemblies and such. Behavior at this school is hectic, and many fights have occurred due to the new Hybrid Block Schedule, which has done nothing than disrupt learning and cause overcrowding. The teachers are overall great, however, scheduling problems have caused many inconsistencies in learning atomospheres. The atmosphere of the student body is less family like and more divided sectors of students based on cliques and activities. The school is run down and outdated. This has been affecting the students’ education as well as overall enjoyment and comfortablity. Upgrades are badly needed.
MWHS is a school unlike any other. We pride ourselves on the rigorous school spirit, and the talented students that make it up. From our star athletes to our intellectual scholars, MWHS contains many individuals from all walks of life with diverse capabilities. The school provides many options for students to obtain educational guidance, further their career paths, and plan for their futures. My only suggestion in improving the quality of the school would be to be more environmentally conscious. It would be an impressive sight to see MWHS take an active step into being more green. Some ways are being more mindful of waste, in which measures are taken to be more recyclable with paper, plastics, aluminum, etc., as well as limiting the use of electricity more readily, especially with the electronics throughout the school. There are certainly more ways to be more eco-friendly, but I hope to see MWHS adopt at least some methods to create a more sustainable environment for the students.
