Maine South offered me a great deal of activites to join, mainly the fine arts department. They really took good care of me when I was in there. The shows at Maine South were amazing to be apart of. All of the school spirit was chaos, it was so great to be in the halls as eveyrone cheers on our school. Band and Games were amazing too, the school really knows how to get their students fired up!
One thing the school lacks is some deal of common sense. A lot of the decsions made were just illogical. Some include the phone pockets, ending at 3:01, and the awful block schedule, that was changed every single year I was at Maine South. Some teachers aren't very good at their jobs, and that brings down the schools reputation.
Even with these negatives, it still doesn't bring down the good of the school. Maine South is a great High School, and I'm so happy I attended it!

I am a senior at Maine South, and I like the school. The teachers are knowledgeable, and there are many courses of all levels to prepare students for their post-high school plans. In addition, our school is known for football, as we are currently ranked #12 in the state. There has been a lot of construction, starting at the end of my first year, but the school's renovation was very much needed. The school has implemented many study/gathering spaces, expanded the parking lots, and created a more modern feel for the school.
The food options are pretty good, but it's primarily overpriced. Sometimes the teachers rush things in class, but I find that going in for office hours is super helpful, and I feel like every staff member is willing to help the students out. I like the school's overall culture and feel like everyone is included/involved in activities they enjoy. There are so many leadership opportunities for clubs, and it's easy to fit in with people with similar interests.

I loved the sports at Maine South. It is how I enjoyed most of my time there. Maine South takes great pride in their sports and it is what we are mainly known for. But lately along the years we have lost our school culture and fun. Rules at football games changed, no more speakers, no confetti, no flags, etc. All other schools got to use these things it made no sense as to why we were the only ones. Then the culture started to change, there was no more male hawkettes, no more powderpuff which is now named "girls flag football" but is available to all grade levels and not just upperclassmen. Our assemblies have even changed, no one even goes because it is at the end of the day instead of the middle. My freshman year had the best winter assembly I will ever experience. Overall it's a great sports and academic school but aren't we supposed to have a good time doing these things. Aren't we supposed to be driven to want to represent our school well? Listen to the students.
