As an underclassman at Maine South, I felt that faculty and teachers were invested in the wellbeing and success of students. I found direction in subject matters that interested me, helping me to determine my area of study for college. The variety of extracurriculars and sports helped me to branch out and create strong friendships. With the closing of school due to the covid-19 pandemic, I saw the dedication of teachers and administrators in action. They took into account the concerns of students and parents at a crucial time. While there are issues at a larger level administratively, I believe that the hospitable environment that I experienced was due to students and teachers alike who wanted to make this school a better place for us all.

Coming from a life in Chicago, the atmosphere at Maine South was very different than what I was accustomed to. At first, I struggled to make friends because everyone had grown up together while I was the new kid. Eventually, I found my stride and my high school life begun. I participated in sports and AP classes and clubs. I went to dances and football games. The academic strength of Maine South was the reason why my parents chose for me to go to this school. They push you to succeed and assist in the learning of life. I had no problems with the teachers there, everyone was so nice and would go out of their way to help you. Their mental health services were extremely beneficial and supportive, practically getting me through high school. The kids are my main problem with the school. Everyone was preppy and fake, so it didn't take me long to figure out who I didn't want to be around. Luckily, I found a solid group of friends who I consider my brothers still to this day.
