First off, let me say that I am grateful for a lot of the things MRA did for me during my 12 years there, and that I was privileged to be able to attend a private school. I’ll start the review with this: don't come here if you don’t play football, basketball, baseball, or do cheer or dance. If you do, then this is a great school for you. However, a lot of people do not. The performing arts and a lot of the “smaller” sports are average compared to other schools due to lack of funding towards them. For example, no performing arts center, no softball field, no tennis courts, but hey at least we got a huge Jumbotron for the football field! MRA is EXTREMELY cliquey. If you do not “fit in” with everyone that goes here, you will struggle with friends greatly. There are some really good teachers here though, but there are also some really bad ones who should not be teaching. The “college counseling” is non-existent. I did everything on my own. Overall, I would consider JA or Prep before MRA.
MRA is a college prep school with a Christian emphasis that prepared my daughter thoroughly for college! From kindergarten to high school graduation the academics, leadership opportunities, community service programs, and true family atmosphere nurtured her to be very well equipped for her future. The faculty and staff are amazing and still remain interested in her well being even after she graduated.
Overall, Madison Ridgeland Academy has done a great job preparing me for college during my 9-11 years of high school the teachers are always there as a resource. They are always open to answer questions and work with students how don’t understand. The atmosphere is generally positive and the staff/students are really good about including new people. The only thing I would wish to see is the expansion of our performing arts program. For example, we don’t have our own theater so we have to rent different venues for our choral events. On the other hand, the school just updated the gym and paid for a new baseball field entrance a couple years ago. I just wish they could put some funds into developing the performing arts program.
