Madison Academic is a highly rigorous school to be in. The competitive environment, hard classes, and limited resources make the school unique. However, as a senior I have a better understanding of how the school works and how students get away with special privileges. We aren't a title 1 school, which means we don't receive state funding like the other schools around us. We don't have an auditorium, gymnasium, and a lecture room. Unfortunately, we can't even rent out a space to have a nice gather for prom. Even though, we are one of the top schools in our state, we hardly get rewarded for it. Furthermore, those who do get rewarded are top students or teachers favorites. The inequality creates bias towards other students and can affect your grades. If there were some things I could change, it would be how the school works and the way students are admitted into the school. Our lottery system pulls higher income students because transportation isn't provided by the school system.
I absolutely adore my high school! Many people don’t enjoy the heavy work load, but if you come prepared to work, it’s really not that bad. Our cafeteria food, just like every other public school in the area, is disgusting. Our building is old, so it makes sense for us to keep needing to replace the panels in the roof. We do have a hallway that always seems to flood when it rains. We are getting a new building soon, though! If you want to receive the best public education in the Madison County area, I recommend you check out Madison Academic.
My overall experience at Madison was wonderful. The school is great for getting prepared for college. It offers so much! We have award winning band, choir, and Academic Decathlon team. Madison also has teachers who are very influential into your learning in and out of the classroom. I’ve built bond with students, teachers, and staff that I do think I would’ve gotten at any other high school.
