I love the opportunities that are provided through my school. The problem is that because we are a Title One district, we have a history of strong discipline and our principals are very strict. Strict to the point where it is difficult to find school spirit anywhere as we are confined to certain clothes, certain hair-styles, no facial hair, and no freedoms whatsoever. As much as certain students or teachers try, nothing can really get better as a whole because of a few people that ruin it. Because us students feel so constricted with everything we do and how we do it, we are too anxious to leave, whether it be to college, or just back home. On a day to day basis, high school does not prepare me for college, but because I personally choose AP classes and extra curricular activities to participate in, I understand how difficult it is to manage it all. However, the majority of the students who attend are not getting ready for college in the least.
Review MacArthur High School
Attending MacArthur High School this year was not as good as I assumed it would be. The school year started off great and then everything started going downhill. Luckily, I had a few friends that were with me throughout the whole school year that made high school less complicated than it should be. I did enjoy learning in class, mainly because my teachers made it enjoyable. I liked how most of my teachers taught the class. The way they taught class caught your attention, and there was never a dull moment. I think the main issue with MacArthur is the way the handle situations. Sometimes disciplinary should be more harsh, while other times it shouldn't. Overall, my experience with MacArthur High School wasn't all that great, but I always have next year to make it more enjoyable.
There was not much to like about it. It seems that the administration favors and prioritizes the "trouble makers" over students who want to succeed and make something out of their lives. I feel like MacArthur does not prepare us for college at all because it seems like teachers or administration just make it so easy for every student to pass in order for the school itself to "look good". We get chance after chance to redo tests if we fail while in college we only get one chance. The students that I have talked to 98% of them agree that MacArthur did not prepare them for college, granted there are a few teachers who do an excellent job at getting us ready.
