Luther Preparatory School is over all a great school, but did have some flaws. One of the biggest flaws that can effect a students future is the lack of extra curricular's and AP courses. While the school might not offer any courses specifically designed for colleges it still prepares all students for it. The classes at the school are designed to be a bit more challenging so that most students can feel prepared to take AP exams by the end of the year. The school also offers a unique experience with the dorms. Most of the students that attend Luther Prep do live in the dorms. This living experience gives the students a chance to grow up and learn how to handle situations by themselves. Over all the school does a nice job of teaching its students and preparing them for the future.
Review Luther Preparatory School
Luther Prep places a great emphasis on music. All students are required to take at least two years of piano or another instrument. Band, orchestra, strings, guitar ensemble, and even ukulele ensemble are popular here. The school requires every student to take four years of music class and most participate in choir all four years. The Prep Singers is the most elite choir and tours to various locations across the country. There are also three plays that are performed every year, with the musical being the most popular. Sports are usually fairly easy to get into since the school is so small, and only basketball and volleyball usually make any cuts. Since most of the students live in dorms, more than half will go to the football and basketball games and the atmosphere has great school spirit. Project Timothy is another great opportunity to travel around the continent to do mission work with several classmates.
The thing that makes this high school unique is its primary purpose, which is to encourage teens to consider going into the pastoral or teaching ministry for the WELS. We recently celebrated this school's 150th Anniversary. Other unique things about it is that the students live in dormitories during high school. We get kids from all over the world. I've generally said that one of my favorite things about Prep is experience of living in the dorms. You are surrounded by your friends all the time. You are also learning self-reliance at the same time with being responsible for getting yourself to meals, class, practice and so on, as well as the simple things like doing your own laundry.
