Lubbock High School Reviews
Rating 3.92 out of 5 329 reviews
The school is amazing when it comes to advanced academics, being able to contend with even the best high schools in Texas! However, the school is adamant in "preserving" the school as a museum, but that came at the cost of horrible restrooms and questionable materials. Many of the tiles still have asbestos underneath them, and the chandeliers to the old entrance have rusted to the point that they're all stationary at an awkward angle. The average academics is alright.
My best experiences in Lubbock High came from my relationships with friends and professors in my classes. I took upper-level classes and the professors of these courses very clearly wanted to help students learn about how they might take a future interest in their subjects in higher education and professional fields. My favorite classes were IB Art, Theory of Knowledge, and Chemistry, and a big part of this was the professors' handling of the classes. They made an apparent effort to motivate students even when the material was slow or hard to grasp, and many did it through humor and a genuine passion for their subjects. Lubbock High still has many issues with disproportionate funding, however, giving a lot of funds to upper-level programs, leaving not a lot of money for lower-division programs or school-wide events. Additionally, there was an obvious wealth gap between the lower and upper-division students, with more middle and upper-class students opting to take higher-level classes.
Lubbock High has been a great academic and social life for me. Being in the International Baccalaureate has taught how me use my time wisely when it comes to my studying and it has brought friendships that have also helped me academically. Being in the IB program, I have meet teachers that actually care about their students. All my years in high school has been full of teachers that care about their students but it is hard to know if it is the same way in regular classes. But some students seem to not care about others safteys and make threats about the school like shooting up the school or bombing the school. Being at lubbock high means that we are not good at sports. Being on the softball team, many schools in our district only look at us as a easy win. Sports were never our thing. But the academics really make Lubbock High a great school for students who really want to achieve in their education.
