Though the teachers are incredibly supportive, the climate has been extremely competitive rather than collaborative, and has definitely had a negative effect on my experience. There are events put on that take the academic load off and bring the student body together, but for me, it just hasn’t been enough to cancel out the competitiveness. I feel like I would’ve enjoyed my time here more had there been more efforts to make things less competitive as well as attempts at class bonding (my class is incredibly cliquey and disconnected with people outside of individual friend groups).
The school itself is a very good academic school, intact it is rank 17th in the united States. Lamp is a good school because the teachers do a good job of explaining the concepts to students well in a way that we learn the material. Even though we are a academic focuses school they still add in events throughout the year to give students breaker to keep our mental health up. Are school is even supposed to be getting a service dog to help with our mental health which has had issues in the past. One of the things i would like to see changed in the school would be better communication between the school and staff and the school and students because half of the time nobody knows what is going on with events or special events which causes issues and confusion.
Overall, I enjoyed my time there. Obviously, I didn't get to spend my full four years in physical school due to the pandemic. However, my time in the physical building (and virtually) was still good. The curriculum was rigorous, but it is worthwhile for those who want to attend college. Every teacher that I had was very kind and understanding towards me. I do wish that there were more fun activities for all students (ex. pep rallies and field trips). I encourage future students to enjoy each day there and always try to stay positive. Each day won't be sunshine and rainbows. There will be boring days or days full of a lot of work. You will have to learn how to manage your time because falling behind, procrastinating, and not doing your work will catch up to you quick (I had to learn that the hard way). As a recent graduate, I can tell you that those four years fly by quick, and I often find myself reminiscing on fond memories.
