Louise S. McGehee School Reviews
Rating 4.45 out of 5 67 reviews
McGehee is an awesome school! My teachers are always there to help me. They have the best history department in the city! Juniors are taken to Washington D.C. every year while studying government. The drama teacher is also extremely enthusiastic and caring. She puts her whole heart into our productions. I built a strong relationship with my advisor because we have the same one throughout high school. She is always there to give us advice, or just listen sometimes. The cafeteria has plenty of healthy options that are absolutely delicious. We often use our beautiful school grounds to eat lunch outside. I have always felt safe with Mr. Paul in charge of our security. He knows every student by name and always goes out of his way to say hello every morning and afternoon. The administration also does a great job keeping us safe and in school throughout this entire pandemic. McGehee has special traditions such as the coveted senior stair case, May Day, and the pink graduation dresses.
Louise S. McGehee School is a good school, However, the school also has some policies that are very confusing and contradictory. For example, the school wants us to advocate for ourselves, but when we do, it is considered disrespectful, and we need a parent to intervene. But when a parent advocates for us, the school says that the parent is wrong and it should be the student advocating for themselves. This makes it hard for us to communicate our needs and concerns effectively. Another issue is that we have too many tests and quizzes back to back. Many students, including me, have trouble studying and managing our time. Having tests and quizzes every week is too much pressure and stress. Moreover, I feel that some of the teachers are not really teaching. They are just saying words without interacting with the students. I think they should focus more on developing our critical thinking and creativity skills. McGehee is a great school, I hope that the school can improve its policies.
Excellent school for my two girls! It is an encouraging yet rigorous learning environment that is instilling a love for learning in all students. The administration is organized and well-prepared, but always looking for feedback and willing to make changes to stay current.
