Los Gatos High School is a school with abundant resources and funding for students to pursue extracurriculars, particularly sports. There are a variety of activities from varsity sports to music programs to clubs. However, while there are multiple activities to pursue, each one is isolated from the other. Athletes stick with one another, band kids stick with each other, and so on. For this reason, I can't give a 5/5 review. There are fewer school activities that promote student mingling across niche interests other than the initial freshman orientation. For the most part, groups are up to the students. Clubs are created by friend groups, and the members are typically acquainted with one another already. There are plenty of options on the surface, but every student essentially sticks with the program they are comfortable with and have no outward incentive to expand their scope of interest. If they do pursue a greater variety of activities, it has little to do with the school.
Los Gatos High School was very good at preparing me for university-level learning. Although I was always doing something for school whether that be swimming, marching band, or academics I was always happy to represent my school by participating. The people that I met at Los Gatos High were all so intelligent and strove to do great things with their education. The reason that everyone I knew was so intelligent was that our education at Los Gatos High was so excellent. At the end of high school, I could speak Japanese, calculate mortgage payments, and write essays on various subjects like Historical events.
Los Gatos High School's biggest downfall is its lack of diversity and overwhelming sense of privilege by the majority of the students. This can be very isolating for those that do not fit into this extremely out of touch reality, but parents send their children here because this school prepares their students extremely well for college. The teachers are highly qualified, for the most part, and encourage learning through experience and the outside world. In addition to academics, LGHS has many diverse clubs and activities for many different interests and a highly intense focus on athletics. This is overall a good thing but can be overwhelming for some students.
