Long Trail School Reviews
Rating 4.08 out of 5 26 reviews
The school has a great atmosphere. Very small so everyone knows everyone. That also causes everyone to become very close with each other and we’re all friends. The teachers are also very close with their students and are very willing to give extra help. The classes are also very small which makes it very comfortable to speak up in class. The campus is beautiful as well and there’s a brand new field house. The academics are also VERY good. Everyone at the school takes education very seriously, and the school also offers the IB program. The program is very intense and challenging so it really depends on you as a person if it is right for you. But, regardless it is cool that it is offered. The sports are not the greatest, but they are being improved each year, and they are slowly becoming more prioritized! It is amazing when new athletes come in! The school also offers a FANTASTIC art and theater programs.
Long Trail school is the most unique and intimate middle and high school community. To provide an idea of how truly intimate it was, my graduating class was 28 students. While some may feel this creates difficulties among peers, I felt it brought us together as a united group of different personalities and perspectives. It also created an incredible bond between teachers and students. Long trail offers the International Baccalaureate program, resulting in challenging academic demands. For many students this could be unbearable, but due to the constant teacher support offered, the IB course load feels attainable for many students. I felt nothing but love and support from my teachers and could see their main goal was for students to succeed. My time at Long Trail introduced me to so many new hobbies and experiences. Everyone is so supportive and inclusive that it feels easy to become involved. Long trail prepared me for my next step and I am eternally grateful for my time there.
These ratings come from conversations with my sister and her friends who are current students. It's been a tough year in every school with COVID-19. She was shocked that LTS went to full-time, in-person attendance (with a remote option called ABBA--no one knows what that means) early in September when every other school was doing an A/B schedule. My sister says the administration, particularly the Head of School, just decided LTS would go back and justified the decision based on the same science all the other schools were using to go back gradually. Why? My sister says this is because the head does not listen to anyone. LTS was exactly the opposite when I was there: caring head, caring staff, caring teachers, and kids who felt welcome to be themselves. Now, it seems that the teachers are worried they will be fired, the students never see the head except when he decides something without student input, and great kids and teachers are leaving to go to BBA.
