Long Island School for the Gifted Reviews

After having visited our fair share of public and private gifted schools in NYC, we made the decision to come to this school so that our son could be a part of what is possibly the most forward thinking community in gifted education. LISG's ability to allow radical acceleration where necessary, while maintaining an age appropriate social/emotional environment, is unique -- and, for some children, the only alternative to homeschooling. The staff, without exception, is well versed in the needs of profoundly gifted children. Every logistical hurdle we went through has been worth it to see our son running into school every morning knowing he will be understood, encouraged, and inspired.
***** WARNING ***** THIS IS NOT A GIFTED SCHOOL!! IT IS A SCHOOL FOR THE ACCELERATED!! NONE OF THE TEACHERS AT THIS SCHOOL ARE GIFTED CERTIFIED. NO TEACHER OR ADMINISTRATOR AND THEIR CREDENTIALS ARE LISTED ON IT'S WEBSITE. NO MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS ARE LISTED ON IT'S WEBSITE. THEY ARE INTENTIONALLY NOT LISTED BECAUSE PARENTS WOULD RECOGNIZE THAT THE STAFF IS NOT QUALIFIED TO EDUCATE "GIFTED" STUDENTS.
I have been very impressed with the school from day one.

The teachers really love the kids and it shows!!

As for the principal, she is just awesome!!! Really gets involved, always listening to ideas and tries to bring them to the school!

With lack of full time G&T programs in any of LI school districts LISG is an outstanding opportunity for academically advanced kids to be challenged and develop their full potential while studying with their peers.

Having classmates and parents so heavily involved in education and genuinely interested in academics is a unique gift by itself. The teachers and administrators are dedicated, caring and always a pleasure to deal with.

Both children of ours really enjoy studying at LISG, have great friends at school, and their level of knowledge is incomparable with vast majority of their peers from even great LI public schools.
This is an outstanding school for motivated and talented young learners from pre-K through 9th grade.

The students are uncommonly engaged in the curriculum because they are smart (obviously) and broken-down into level-appropriate class sections to allow each student to better advance his/her learning. Contrary to the expectations of the uninitiated, social interactions among students are perfectly "normal", albeit limited relative to public school by the lack of after-school activities (which is understandable given that LISG is a commuter school). Class sizes are small relative to the typical Long Island / NYC school (not relative to the rest of NY, however), which is great for learning and keeps the community of students and parents extremely close.

I have yet to encounter a disruptive student at the school or a child whom I would consider a bad influence on my own.
I love this school. It was a little expensive, but the teachers really get to know you. You get to know everyone, and it is a very trusting environment.
