I attended Lone Star for all four years of high school. Most of the teachers I had were great, but, of course, there were some who were terrible. When I attended, there were many physical fights between students and a couple of school shooting threats. The food is average, but has no options for vegans. The architecture of the building is not great for students to get to class, the hallways are always extremely crowded during passing period. The administration team and counselors are not the best. Though they have been helpful to me in most regards, many of my friends who were bullied, harassed, or assaulted were met with inaction from the counselors. Many students, during my time there, were very bigoted. The arts department was great, though.
My experience at Lone Star has overall been a good one. There’s been ups and downs of course as all high schools have had, but I’ve genuinely enjoyed my time here. When covid hit it grew really hard for everyone, and many people’s grades suffered, but when it was safe to return, the administration worked hard to bring all the children’s motivation and grades up, as they understand it’s not only the grades that matter, but how the kids feel. Teachers here understand kids need to be emotionally and mentally well in order to do anything inside and outside of school, and many are willing to help children with just about anything. I would wish that there is less busy work just to keep kids working, and make assignments that will genuinely help the kids, as if all kids see are busywork, it makes them not want to do anything at all.
It's overall a pretty good public school. Very good at dividing its focus between supporting the arts, academics, and sports. Teachers are generally pretty nice and usually very good and experienced in the subject they are teaching. My main problem is with the culture of the school itself. It has gotten slightly better since my freshman year but there are still a lot of fights and violent people that are just allowed to walk around without consequences. They seem more worried about what clothes kids wear than the fact that a very large part of their student body has easy access to hard drugs in the school. Drug deals are going on right under their noses and the only thing they can think of is to shut down our bathrooms and encourage kids to rat other kids out, instead of spending just a little more money on drug tests and more regular drug dog checks.
