The school itself is very nice and up to date for being over 100 years old. However, this school has some issues that I have experienced as a student. LTHS is very overpopulated. There are at least 4,000 kids in our school, which makes it impossible to move in the hallways. Since the school is so large, some of the classrooms you have to go to feel like they are a million miles away. Take that with the fact we only have 5 minutes between bells and not every teacher lets you leave early, tardies come up frequently, even though it is next to impossible to make it there on time. The schools technology policy is also more strict than other schools in the district. I've asked friends who go to other schools that share the same district as LTHS, and all of them said that they are allowed to go on their phones in the hallways, and are allowed to have one earbud in. At LTHS, you cant even hold your phone in your hand in the halls without being written up. As a whole, LTHS is a decent school.
The teachers are all very passionate people who clearly enjoy their jobs, but that is only true if you take the right classes. I was on the honors track, and I am confident that I received an entirely different education from someone in my grade who only took regular classes. The advanced programs are excellent, but most classes do not seek to challenge or even engage with students. This becomes a bigger issue with the demographic makeup of honors v. regular classes; because of the segregated middle school system, the majority of Lockport Township's minority students are pushed into regular classes, and once you enter high school on the regular track, with the exceptionally slower pace than that of the honors track, there is very little chance of moving up to the next level. Though I loved my school experience, I wonder if the administration even cares about students in non-advanced classes. Also, barrier to get accommodations is high. LTHS is still a good school, though.
Administration doesn’t care about students at all. 2 kids died and one went missing within my 4 years here and they said nothing about any situation. The kids are all rude and stuck up. If you aren’t white, rich, straight, and christian/agnostic/atheist you’ll be miserable. Everyone here are racist republicans. There’s no work ethic in the regular courses, and if you want to be with hard workers you have to be in AP and or honors. But the AP/honors kids all think they’re better than everyone else, so there’s no good balance. Only good thing is the teachers. I’ve had almost all phenomenal teachers who genuinely care and want you to succeed, especially the AP teachers. Overall a horrible experience I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Counting down the days until I graduate. Will only miss my teachers when I’m finally done.
