So far, I've enjoyed my time at Linn-Mar for the most part. I've had good experiences with most of my teachers, especially my English teachers. Linn-Mar offers a lot of different opportunities with ways to get involved as well with clubs, sports, and intermurals. They offer many different classes, with some providing an academic challenge. What I haven't enjoyed at times is simply the size and amount of students. I find myself meeting new students each year that I've gone to school with for the past few years and didn't even know their names. While this can be fun for some, sometimes it has annoyed me. Along with this, the number of students can simply be intimidating when it comes to joining sports and clubs, and I've been discouraged from joining some activities based on the large amount of people and talent already participating in these activities. Overall though, I've had many positive experiences at Linn-Mar.
Review Linn-Mar High School
I had great experiences in the music program! Linn-Mar's music department is one of the biggest and easily one of the best in the state. That being said, a lot of emphasis is put on joining extra-curricular activities at Linn-mar; So much so that a lot of the funding goes toward athletics and music. I feel that some of this should be used to better our academics- for example, hiring more teachers for understaffed courses like French, or incorporating a larger variety of AP classes as early as 9th grade into the program as Cedar Rapids district schools have done.
Linn-Mar has a great education and many different clubs and extra-curricular clubs and activities that cater to many of the students. They also have a wide range of class opportunities to help students decide which ones they like and possibly continue a career in. Although there are many things about the school that are great, and many of the variables cannot be changed, one change that I think should be implemented would be some of the teachers and their teaching style. What I mean by that exactly is to have the work more helpful to the student instead of just "throwing the homework" and different assignments at the student, creating new stresses for students. Doing this can negatively impact the students on their opinion of the class and the teacher creating a bad relationship between the teacher and student. That is most likely the one thing that the Linn-Mar High School could improve on.
