Lighthouse Preparatory Academy Reviews
Rating 4.1 out of 5 10 reviews
I started attending Lighthouse freshman year, after being homeschooled my whole life. The transition was easy, and the administration went out of its way to give me the email addresses and phone numbers of students I would be with in class, so I entered with people I could call friends. Teachers have always strived not only to teach us a subject but to develop relationships. Many of the teachers give out their personal phone numbers for school questions, personal issues, and educators often send out notes of encouragement through text. Additionally, I appreciate the many leadership opportunities Lighthouse provides for willing juniors and seniors through small groups, club leadership, and student council. To conclude, attending Lighthouse has proven to be the best academic decision I have made, and I am thankful to Lighthouse Preparatory Academy for being such an important part of my life.
In a culture where public schools are actively trying to cut parents out of their child's education, Lighthouse is a breath of fresh air. There is a real partnership between teachers and parents and parents remain a very active part of their child's education. I believe this is most inline with how scripture lays out a parent's duty to remain the primary discipler of their children. I hated the thought of giving my child over to strangers in a public school who may have a desire to disciple them contrary to what I have taught. At Lighthouse, not only do I not have to worry about that, I get to spend more time with them at home under the university model. It's truly the best of both worlds.
Academics are very good at the school. The curriculum is rigorous compared to public schools, but that is exactly what we were looking for. We wanted the bar to remain high for our children so they are adequately prepared to be successful in college.

Lighthouse is a great school depending on what you're looking for and the classmates you get. For others, it's not so great. You might have friendly and nice classmates that end up being some amazing friends for your grade school education. You might end up with a class of clique-y students.
As for the teachers, the English and history teachers are often quite knowledgeable and good instructors. They offer a great classic English literature education (although the school could benefit from adding more diverse literature selections). The math and science departments are severely lacking. This is a common problem in many schools, but is especially bad at LPA.
The goal of the school culture to be uplifting and spiritually driven. But this absolutely depends on the other students you HAPPEN to be in school with. I was lucky and had amazing classmates who were accepting and made me a better person. Make sure you listen to your student and whether or not they feel accepted at school.
