This school is now a magnet middle school, now named Lied STEM Academy &specializes in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). All 6th graders have two electives in addition to their other classes (math, ELA, science, social studies, PE, etc.), one of which must be a performing arts course. They can choose between Band, Choir, Guitar, &Orchestra. In 7th/8th grade, they normally have just one elective, so they can choose to stay in the music class or choose a different elective.Lots of activity options. School has strong safety protocols in place as well as friendly, caring staff (teachers, admins, and support staff). The main things I think could be improved are some more repairs need to be done in some places, such as the water fountains. I also think they should place more value in the music classes. Overall solid choice.

Good teachers
..students are really engaged. All teachers use up to date teaching practices. They truly care about every student. You have a principal who really cares about the students. Also the school doesnt just focuses on math and science. They have a solid art program.
Besides all the majors offered at this school they also offer a wide variety of clubs that usually meet at lunch time. This school has a special extended lunch hour that includes clubs but also time to do homework, use the computers in the library, or to meet with your teachers as needed. My daughter will probably too busy to join a club this year. She is still learning to manage her time and homework and to get enough sleep. But the opportunities are there and everyone has been very welcoming.
