Great school!! Very supportive of the performing arts, I was involved in chorus and Thespians all four years and absolutely loved the people, the teachers, and the opportunities I was offered!
Leon high school is a very big school, so you have to get used to walking long distances in order to get to your classes. There are some very good teachers there, although it is a good mix on who you are able to get. They maintain several buildings on campus, although their sports teams are somewhat notoriously bad, especially their football team.
The students are very involved in a variety of clubs and activities and passionate about what they do. There is a range of teachers, from enthusiastic and engaging to apathetic or uninvolved, but the majority are great! Also, the history of the school is amazing.
When i transferred to Leon High school last fall my life was impacted in so many beneficial ways. The teachers helped me with any problems one on one making sure i stayed engaged and learning. The administrators in the front office were so kind when i needed help with finding classes they assigned someone to show me around the school along with my classes. The guidance counselor is a great person she helped me find ways to help with college and the things that i wanna do in the future. I'm so happy to be attending Leon High School, also the ROTC Instructors have really helped me get my life back together from where i use to be they are like my other family because they always put motivation in my life, positivity, they taught me how to be strong no matter what.
I love the staff and the activities that are provided, love the student government, I feel that they put their heart into everything that they do
Leon is such a great school. The teachers are very cool they talk to you like friends and always have their ears open if you need someone to talk to. Leon isn't just a school its a family! Its very easy to make friends and you won't be left out. I love Leon High School.
Leon is considered one of the "better" high schools in the Tallahassee area and I think it lives up to that name pretty well. The staff is made up of dedicated teachers, hard-working faculty, and patient janitors. Personally, I have never had any major altercations with fellow students or teachers, but I am a very subdued person. I think the school falls short in the science department. Sophomore year I took chemistry and loved it, however, I both honors teachers were known to be terrible teachers and a good person or an okay teacher and a terrible personality. Other kids around schools have been known to complain about most other science teachers as well. As for school life, the shows the music program put on are the absolute best. Most years the chorus and band kids put on PAWS, a winter showcase aimed to show off their talents. The scene is amazing. With classes like guitar, key board, or steal drums, there is no way to be bored through the entire event. Overall, a great school.
What I liked about Leon is the diversity it constantly contained throughout my four years of high school, also the college readiness opportunities I received. What I would change about Leon is the safety, any stranger could walk on campus which is very nerve wrecking especially with all the school shootings that has happened in the recent years. Overall Leon High School was one of the best high schools in Leon county.
Lots of clubs to join, tons of activities and lots of school spirit. Has a perfect balance of sharing funds for both sports and arts
Leon was the best school I ever attended. The staff at the school were extremely helpful throughout all four of my years. The school is the oldest public high school in Florida, and has so much historic value and significance. We take pride in our school, and we're always giving back to our community.
Leon is a very good school that helps you succeed in life. Leon also helps with getting into college and allows for you to breath when the time comes. Leon is the best school in my opinion, and I hope that people continue to have a great experience there.
Leon is a good school and the location is great, right in the middle of town with easy access to restaurants, public transport, etc. One of the best things about Leon are the teachers, I've had amazing math teachers every year, they always make themselves available for help and are super helpful and open. Other subjects are hit or miss but there are lots of options for help, if you don't want to ask that teacher. There are tons of clubs and honor societies, and it's really easy to start new clubs if you have a different interest. I can't speak to the sports, but the performing arts and music programs are awesome. This is the only high school in Tallahassee with a Steel Drums program, the teacher is great and it's a really fun atmosphere and group of people.
Leon High School has helped me grow as a person. I am extremely grateful for all of the opportunities this school has given me. Any student can 'fit in' and find their people at Leon. There are clubs and activities for everyone, and there is a phenomenal level of school spirit. However, there is not much done to help students prepare for college, other than having college booths set up in the lobby during lunch on occasion. There may be plenty of resources, but the school does not make students aware of these resources.
If you like a traditional high school then Leon is for you. It's our oldest high school. It's become more diverse over time but could continue to improve. The academics are average to very good. Our counselors are good but they seem overwhelmed at times. We do have a lot of students at Leon so that might be why. I wish we had more help with scholarships before we become seniors. It would really help. You have to be a go-getter there and work with your parents and the teachers to get what you need and want. There are a lot of things that unfortunately they might not tell you. Not because they do not care but because they are overwhelmed. They just have a lot of students to deal with and it is easy for people to fall through the cracks. That is why I say you must be a go-getter and keep asking for what you need and want. Check their website often; although we have found that it can sometimes be a bit stagnate as it relates to academics and scholarship information. Be proactive.
Leon is a great school. There are multiple programs and organizations available for every interest a student could have. Many of these programs are diverse and become like a second family. The teachers here are mostly friendly, encouraging and enjoyable.
I like how the classes presented a challenge. The school is very spirited and looks to change the community.
Absolutely loved my time there. I thrived there. Majority of my teachers helped me be successful, and the principal is amazing.
