I liked Leigh High's ability to hear its students needs and address them. They are constantly making changes to support students by providing several services to make the school more accepting. There are various mental health resources, a gender neutral bathroom, college application help, and opportunities to hear from students and teachers from possible future classes. Something I would change, however, is the discrepancy in resources in extracurriculars. Boy's sports teams receive the majority of the funding and the majority of the support. Additionally, while there are many options in terms of art classes, there are limited spaces.
The school provides many resources for the students. Mental health, resources such as free therapists and the wellness center, study resources such as the college and career center and homework center, where students help other students. The teachers are very kind and understanding aside from being great at their jobs. There are so many different clubs available to the students, and new ones created each year. School events are very well planned by the leadership class. There are many sports opportunities available as well.
Spacious green fields and relatively clean hallways on the edge of the Santa Cruz mountains. A beautiful campus, but not necessarily evenly distributed in funding or value. Though there are many gems out there, much of the foreign language department especially has much room for improvement as far as teachers go. The food is usually terrible, and even when it’s not, comes in too small portions for most healthy teens. Much of the sports budget is clearly and heavily spent on the student-disregarded football team, but is somewhat made up for by the sheer amount of decent extracurriculars out there for prospective students. Most of the classes are engaging, and its quite safe school. Far from perfect, but would still recommend
