Overall Lehigh Valley Academy is a great school if you are deciding to go to an international school or examine for IB credits. If you are looking for a regular high school diploma, this school is not for you. The curriculum is very intense and there are many requirements in order to obtain your IB credits. The school is small compared to local high schools but there is still school spirit and fun activities that student council creates. The biggest asset to the sports at LVA is their Step Team, they have had the opportunity to win first place at the State competition and go to nationals! There is dress code at the school. There is a lot of pressure on the juniors and seniors due to the Diploma Programme, they also offer a Career Programme for students who are more interested in engineering or biomedical. The CP program is definitely easier than the DP program but they both offer great opportunities.
I was very disappointed with the changing in teachers sometimes twice in one year and not having a capable substitute teachers filling in.
The IB is a very prestigious accomplishment. My student missed the full degree by 1 point. There was no way to ask questions and we were made to feel that if we questioned it the scores will probably be lower. Also, the testing cost hundreds of dollars & we would also have to pay for the scores to be reviewed.
This is quite a serious & egregious fault of the IB and the prep this school provides. The students are not well prepared for the IB (international Baccalaureate).
My student was given preliminary indicators that he would score well into the pass region. The exams had topics that LVA did not even cover! How fair is that-then missing the IB by 1 point?
The only reason I gave a 3 star rating is because the school truly had an international Student base. And many great friendships were made.

We are having an excellent experience at LVA. My children are involved in many different activities such as plays and basketball. The basketball team is undefeated right now. Students start clubs they are interested in and are supported The Principals work with the parents, kids and teachers. The teachers get to know the students. My older child was prepared so well for college. He had no problems adjusting to the work or college life. The IB Programmes are the way to go!
