Lee-Scott Academy Reviews
Rating 4.37 out of 5 30 reviews
Lee-Scott Academy used to have a great reputation and excellent educational experience. However, in the last several years, the curriculum and quality of teaching have seemed to diminish. Some of the teachers are excellent and truly have the best interest of the students in mind when they are teaching. However, too many of the teachers are retired from public schools and are just at LSA for an easy paycheck. They are not truly interested in teaching and give way too much busy work, like coloring packets for a senior and worksheets that can be easily accessed from websites like Teachers Pay Teachers. The administration doesn't seem to care about the students or be fair in their handling of discipline. Athletes and students from prosperous families seem to get special treatment. The teachers and administration do not seem to care about parent or student concerns regarding academic classes or personal issues like bullying.
Great academic environment where teachers want success for students. Where my problem lies is with students' opportunities in the arts. Amazing teachers in the fine arts department--the best music/choir, visual art and theatre, and band directors. They all do the best with what they are given by the administration. The stage is in a cafeteria (again, a cafeteria), and it could very well be one of the smallest stages around. The entire concert band (which is only about fifty people) cannot fit on the stage at the same time. Walking backstage is an endeavor--never knowing if you may trip on crucial set pieces and such. With award-winning theatre and band programs like the ones at Lee-Scott Academy, it is too bad the administration does not value the performances of musicians and actors at LSA as much as the performances of their athletic programs. And, if you want to change this--I hope you have lots of money, because the school sure as heck isn't going to pay for it. :)
Lee Scott Academy is an average school and that offers no advantage academically from the above average public school system. Teachers hired to teach electives tend to be friends with administration and staff. Their poor vetting process results in substandard teachers with narrow-minded viewpoints and glaring cultural insensitivities. Parental involvements includes cliques that are encouraged by offering PTO meetings at 8am on Wednesday morning. This attaches a small group of the same homemakers that control the flow of activities to best suit their group’s agenda rather than the schools overall best interests. Donor fatigue will continue, as newcomers are not welcomed in the fold despite having the funds that could easily add to the schools coffers. After two years of enrollment, I have removed my child from this lackluster academic program and emotional unhealthy environment.
