Bonjour! The French School of Maine offers you the unique opportunity to give your child the lifelong Gift of Language in an authentic, French Immersion environment that is ideal for young children to become bilingual naturally. The language of instruction in all subjects – math, social studies, science, etc. - in French and students learn the same way they learned their native tongue, first listening and observing, and eventually speaking, reading and writing. Music, art, and play are also integral to our mission to teach the whole child at this extraordinary time in their development.

We invite you to explore our website and set up a visit to our beautifully renovated school and playground - take a private tour, during which you can observe our approach at work in the classrooms, meet our teachers and ask plenty of questions. Our school is growing and we would love to have your family join us during this exciting time. We look forward to meeting you - Merci!

L’ecole française du Maine has always impressed me with their friendliness and know-how. I began my relationship with the school when I was a volunteer face painter at their incredibly fun summertime carnival. I then went on to be an extra hand or substitute as needed during my breaks from college. All the children seem so happy and the teachers were nothing but kindness. The sense of community was strong and although I was new, I was warmly welcomed. I was impressed by all the children who were able to masterfully switch from speaking to their parents in English to their teachers in French, especially those who began to learn the language! I love this schools unique ability to create bilingualism and knowledge of other cultures at such a young age, while still keeping up with their maths and creative abilities that they would be doing in an English speaking classroom. If I could give L’ecole française Du Maine 6 stars I would! Wonderful place to work and learn.

I absolutely love working at l'Ecole Française du Maine.
I have been teaching in different schools for over a decade now, and I have to say that EFDM is a true gem. I am amazed every day at the children's ability to learn so quickly in a second language.
The curriculum follows the guidelines from the French Ministry of Education. It also integrates the guidelines from the Maine Department of Education. This allows continuity for students attending French schools across the globe and children can also transfer to any American school with ease. In a way, children get the best of both cultures.
If you are a parent considering this school, don't hesitate! Becoming bilingual is the best gift you can give to your child!
What stands out when you walk in the door at EFDM is the environment - you see a lot of children, the walls are covered with impressive artwork and there's plenty of activity and yet it is very calm and serene. Then you see what is happening in the classrooms - students as young as 3, engaged with engaged with teachers who only speak French, and they're understanding and conversing! Many are children who only spoke English when they enrolled in the school but in this setting, French is the way of life and they just pick it up, with even a true French accent!

The more you find out about what is offered at EFDM - music, swimming, art, ski trips and, of course, becoming bilingual - the more you are amazed at the incredible opportunity these students have. If you haven't been there to see this unique, caring school first-hand, you should visit - it's a true gem in Maine!
