From Lawrence Academy

Lawrence Academy is a coeducational independent school of 395 students located in Groton, Massachusetts. Offering grades 9-12, LA is home to an equal split of day and boarding students, within a welcoming, open educational culture. Immersive, individualized learning is essential to our program, and our knowledgeable faculty teach students how to think, not what to think. Throughout the year, our teachers assess students' interests and needs and adapt to them. Our goal is to see students grow in knowledge, confidence, and empathy. Within Lawrence Academy's healthy environment of rigorous learning, students graduate as well-developed individuals with a mission and a passion for that purpose.

Like all schools, LA is what you make of it. However, LA is special because the teachers, staff and administration give students so many opportunities to succeed - they don't give up! Each student has a trusted adult on the LA campus - teacher, advisor, coach, house parent - to talk to and confide in. The twice monthly Comment Cards provide students and their parents with a built in feedback system. College counseling - outstanding! Their staff is full time, well staffed and engaged with each student from the beginning. Soft intro in 9th, testing review throughout the 10th. Parents receive a detailed monthly newsletter (and lots of helpful links) through Decision Day in your child's senior year. Bonus -summer bootcamp to familiarize students with the Common App, review essay prompts and rough drafts, and college interview skills and do's and don'ts.

Moving away from home at first was terrifying but once you step foot on campus you instantly feel this sense of community at LA. The faculty members are top-notch. They genuinely care about each and every student. They go out of their way to make sure that every student feels comfortable and safe at LA. The relationships that you make with the faculty are unlike any other relationships I have made with adults.
Coming to LA I thought I was only an athlete. I thought I only played three sports and that's all I did. Well, I was wrong. LA allowed me to realize that I am more than just an athlete. I participated in the One Acts which I recommend everyone try! My good friend and I ran Spartan Nation the school spirit group, I went fly fishing in the Bahamas on Winterim and started my own club!
LA allowed me to discover who I really am and I am forever grateful for my time at LA.
Lawrence Academy truly helped me find my voice. Whether that be in the classroom, on an athletic field or just on the quad, LA allowed me to figure out what would work best for ME. At LA I felt I had the chance to make my education mine and find the activities that I enjoyed most. I also felt like I was getting some of the best one on one attention with my teachers, and I really felt they cared about how I was doing both in and out of the classroom. I am proud to be a Spartan!
