The school is underfunded. This is because the community doesn't support the actions of the board members they elected. Often there are choices done at the higher levels that the lower level employees feel the effects of. The texts are outdated and school administration spends time on irrelevant and small issues. Many of the teachers are too focused on pushing standards rather than making sure their students understand topics. Many of the coaches in sports are unqualified or choose favorites. On the flip side of this, there are many faculty members that go out of their way to make sure students are enjoying their days. Also much of the technology has been upgraded so that the students are able to utilize up-to-date information. Also the facilities are sufficient for learning and training.

Hello my name is Ava and I am very privileged to be able to attend such a wonderful school with great staff! The acedemics are extraordinary and the teachers so willing to answer questions. Everyday I am pushed to be a better student and a better person. I participate in the FFA, student government, jazz band, and cross country. In the FFA we are pushed to be better leaders and advocates for agriculture and my agriculture insures that we have a great experience and do well in competitions. I joined the Student Government to be a better leader and help make desisions for our students and I already feel like I'm making a difference because I can talk to my classmates about their needs and help them get the best high school experience possible. I am so excited to be able to to go through my high school career at such a wonderful facility and couldn't have asked for a better education.
Laurel High School is a place full of people who don't care. The counselors don't care about students concerns; the teachers don't care to try, and the school district doesn't care to take action when appropriate. They would rather spend their money on a new stadium rather than new materials for learning. The atmosphere of Laurel lacks the encouragement for potential, the vibe is more of a 'get it done as quickly as possible'. Quality of work is not important within this school, creativity is doubted, new ideas seem unrealistic within this environment. Teachers seem oblivious to real world issues, not allowing us to discuss them or even consider potential solutions. Some of the biggest bullies are teachers pets ,simply because they play sports. This place only strives for a good image, ignoring the thought of academic or personal success.
