Langley High School is an academically demanding school that prepares students for college and fosters academic excellence. The culture at Langley reflects the academically rigorous nature of the school, perpetuated by parents, students, and teachers alike. Langley has excellent teachers which are well qualified to support students. However, when students fall behind, the unforgiving academic environment makes it difficult to catch up. While there are resources put in place to support students through academic difficulty, the social environment does little to assist students and ultimately decreases self esteem. Similarly, the lack of diversity at Langley contributes to an unforgiving academic environment with a total minority enrollment of 36% according to US News and World report. Despite room for improvement, Langley has one of the strongest high school academic curriculums in Virginia and does an excellent job at preparing students for what lies ahead in college and beyond.

Through freshmen and sophomore year Langley High School retained its academic integrity and competitive yet healthy culture. Outside of the school it is often referred to as "Little Harvard" being that it is known throughout the DMV area as very academically advanced. Going into Junior year we received new administration, and while the school kept its reputation of fantastic education, the new administration created visible tension and hostility between the teachers and administration and students and administration. The new administration disregards all concerns made by the students, parents, and most importantly the teachers. Langley is still academically superior yet going into these next few years it is unknown to students and teachers whether the institution will retain its reputation.
The school itself may have great ratings and that's because the ones who are rating it are those that benefit institutionally from the school. The culture of the school itself was extremely toxic and cliquey. POC culture wasn't supported at all and the conditions of the school while I was a student were terrible as they were undergoing renovations. The school is a lot nicer now, but the teachers were also a hit or miss. During my time there, I noticed the good professors were given to those in AP classes and those in regular classes had the worst professors. The AP professors in the humanities department at Langley is the best, while the math department and regular level humanity teachers had the worst.
