From Landon School

Landon is an all-boys day school for grades 3-12 located on a 75-acre campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

Landon is built for boys. We want each student to bring his energy, goodness, ideas, humor, creativity, curiosity and intensity to every class, performance, project, and practice. The men and women of Landon who will be his teachers, coaches, and mentors will challenge him to bring it every day. And this commitment to him is why we are a national leader in boys' college preparatory education.

Ethics, Service, and Leadership Program

Character education is at the core of what we do every day. We are inspired by the goodness and vast human potential inherent in boys. We cultivate this potential through peer-led ethics assemblies, frequent small-group advisory meetings to discuss issues that impact the school and the world, and required courses in ethics, service, and leadership, including a Grade 12 capstone project.

On my first day at Landon as a freshman, as I stepped into the Upper School building, I knew this was the right place because everyone from teachers to students was so welcoming and it felt like a second home. It felt like I’d been going to Landon for years! The teachers value each student and will go out of their way to make sure they feel comfortable and are having fun, which makes it a great learning environment. Not only have I learned important content whether in Biology, History, Geometry, and more, I have learned how to approach problems, and how to live with an open and accepting mind. This is true because the community at Landon values diversity and strives for inclusion whether on or off campus.

I can safely say my education, athletic, and artistic experience has been incredible. I have learned new skills that will help me very far into my life after Landon. But in my 9 years at Landon, communication and relationships have been two priceless tools I have learned how to develop and use. It could be dealing with some inevitable controversy amongst your friends or having to speak with your teacher about your struggles in a class, Landon pushed me to learn how to get through difficulties. We all are going through a developing time through Lower, Middle, and Upper School, and Landon shows that the strength of your grade is your strongest ally. I have made lifelong relationships with my teachers and friends, and I learned how to be a good person back to them. In my 74-person class, there is no hiding at Landon. So, I was pushed to learn not only how to make lasting relationships but connect with people and just be a good person.
Landon has not only instilled amazing techniques and skills to become a better scholar, actor, athlete, and musician, but has also given me the tools, opportunities, and encouragement to become a better person. Integrity, honesty, kindness, and trust are not only talked about, but practiced every day. Though my time at Landon has been short, a welcoming community with engaged and committed teachers has helped me love every minute.
