As a current IB senior, I would give the school a pretty high rating. I do enjoy the environment and the IB program. I wish that we were offered more IB courses (like Strawberry Crest HS does). Otherwise admin are really good and supportive! In terms of college readiness, the college and career admin does a wonderful job! She is so so supportive and helps so much with getting resources to all student! Same with our IB admin (vice principal and guidance counselor). I also do give a high rating to clubs and activities. I am currently in FBLA and NHS. The school does have a pretty diverse selection of clubs and sports! Finally the school is super good with STEM representation and opportunities. Overall 10/10 and I am excited to see any developments and improvements for my little sister attending!
Over Land O’ Lakes High School is a decent a school, however there are major faults that make it i enjoyable to many students like myself. At times the administration can be unfair to students in situations, one example being popularity affecting punishment, especially for dress code. I know people who have been punished for wearing comfortable pajama pants and slippers (with grips on the bottom) even though they were fully covered, while popular athletes can wear crop tops and short shorts, showing much more skin, but manage to not get in trouble. I understand dress code is important to an extent, but if it’s not equally enforced upon students, as many other rules are as well, it’s not fair to the students. Another commonly complained about issue is how restrictive the bathroom visits are. Although some peers don’t use them for the intended purpose, all students shouldn’t negatively affected by being given a specific number of times and specific time frames allotted.
Academically, Land O' Lakes High School is a very good school. Most of the teachers are good at teaching their respective subjects and give assignments and homework that will aid students in getting the grades and scores that they desire, especially in the IB program. School administration is good at limiting fights and does not tolerate drug and alcohol use. The IB guidance counselor is supportive of the students and what they are going through, and works with them instead of against them. However, there is very little school spirit. We do not participate in Powder Puff or Skit, and many of the dress up days for homecoming and prom are boring. This is frustrating to students who want to make core memories, but no school is perfect.
