My experience at Lancaster High School has been great! In my opinion, the faculty and staff here do a great job at creating an adaptable and supportive learning environment. There's almost an endless amount of resources for whatever any of the students here need, which is extremely helpful when trying to get work done. All of the students are provided with a wide range of opportunities, including five educational academies and many different electives. My school has much more to offer than just the core classes, which is one of the favorite things about my school. I personally participate in the PLTW academy, which has allowed me to explore the things I'm actually interested in, such as technology and engineering. Overall, the past four years at this high school have been very positive, and I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else.
My three years at Lancaster High school was during the Covid-19 crises. Students were out of school, teachers were out of school, and anything that was norm in my freshman year was gone. My scholastic life became a challenge. However, the administration, faculty, and staff at Lancaster High supplied above and beyond what other school districts were providing their students with educational resources. Through on-line teaching and direct communication, Lancaster High School made the abnormal become the normal during the pandemic.
Lancaster High School is- on the whole- a decent, and perhaps above-average public school. But that does not mean everything is equally decent; as with most schools, it exceeds expectations in some aspects (i.e., athletics & music) but lacks in other departments (i.e., diversity & inclusiveness). Now what do I mean by this? Well, for example, as niche states in its statistics portion of the school, there is indeed a high athletic participation in the public school, along with a high-quality one at that. But then again, not every student is interested in sports; I, admittedly, fit in this category. The next natural question would be is what opportunities does someone like me have- and, more importantly, how I can access such opportunities. Well, it just so happens that the key here is your friend group or clique. But if you're an outsider, such as myself, admist a non-diverse crowd (i.e., ~94% are white) you seldom gain them, and your experience thus turns lackluster- even sad.
