I'm currently finishing my fifth year at Lakeside, and I cannot emphasize enough how much I love it at this school. Driven, motivated, and kind students thrive in our tight-knit community. I feel so supported and cared for by the faculty and staff, and I've been given plenty of opportunities to contribute my voice towards the betterment of the school. I truly feel at home in this school, and I'm so grateful to the administration for all the hard work they put into cultivating a compassionate community. Yes, homework abounds, and yes, the students are quite competitive, but if you stay motivated and work hard you'll do just fine. As a student-athlete who will also be leading two clubs next year, I definitely have a jam-packed schedule, but as long as you can manage your time well, it's all doable! The skills I've learned and will continue to learn at Lakeside, alongside the fantastic academics, will serve me well in university and beyond.
You'll find opportunities like no other at Lakeside with plenty of unique extracurriculars (such as crew or wrestling), service opportunities (esp. Global Service Learning where you spend a month abroad in another country), dedicated teachers and staff, and quality people.
Being an ultra-competitive school, it isn't rare for students to be sleeping after midnight. Teachers be like "we don't want you to be stressed" but also assign hours of homework each night… (you have been warned!)
On the bright side, colleges know about the rigor here, so a 4.0 GPA is really not the norm. Also we don't have AP courses, but we can take "Honors" classes which are usually at or above the AP level. Classes can be challenging so my one piece of advice would be: set good study habits, prioritize school starting freshman year!
Although I did have my ups and downs through my 7 years at Lakeside, in retrospect, if I were to go back in time to 5th grade, I would still choose to attend :)

Lakeside is an excellent school: it's well-run and they aim for equity among students (eg offering lots of financial aid, etc.) The teachers support their students well; I'm a student-athlete, so I am quite busy, but my teachers are happy to offer extensions and homework help. The curriculum is challenging and moves quickly, especially in language classes, but my language teacher is highly competent. Throughout the pandemic, the school has demonstrated great communication. I only have a couple complaints. First, unhealthy competition is pervasive throughout the school. I must overachieve to feel adequate. The mental health resources provided aren't enough to compensate for this. Next, the admissions process reeks of corruption, prioritizing connections and sibling relations. I'd wonder how some people got in based on their merit until I realized that they were a sibling, who are accepted at OVER 3x THE RATE of non-connected students (same for any important/rich people’s children).
