Throughout my high school years, I had great friends and exceled in class. However, I decided to leave Lake Washington High School (LW) and attend Running Start. I chose this path because I felt like there was nothing left for me at LW. I was not being critically challenged in this environment. Even when a student dressed up in black face, at a “black out” themed football game, the school did not use this disgusting display of ingrained and explicit racism opportunity to start a conversation. This is just one of many instances where LW did not hold themselves and their students accountable for their actions. LW has the opportunity to engage students in uncomfortable but crucial conversations by learning more about the history of this nation, such as how blackface was used to instill the fear of the black man as a danger to white women. By doing this, students can graduate with a diploma but also with an expanded awareness of the world.

The school's administration is slow and doesn't interact with the students. I went to the office multiple times only to be turned away because the staff was unprepared. When updates occured for important paper work, students and parents are not notified and they do not appear online. Only out dated paperwork can be viewed. They also impose obstacles for students to graduate, especially if they decide to choose running start or other high school academic options.
I am an incoming senior at Lake Washington High School. Moving to the area in freshman year, I was impressed by the beautiful campus. The building is constructed mostly of glass, which gives it a clean, sleek look. the facilities are nice; each classroom is fully equipped with necessities. The staff give students full opportunities to express their opinions; different teaching styles are also integrated well. One drawback is the high school is getting overcrowded with new students each year. The school also lacks diversity, with the majority of the population being white.
