This is probably a school with a good academic program BUT also they need to tech them to be respectful and kind , specially when they’re representing their school. And is not just the students also the parents who coaches their kids to be rude and disrespectful. To be a good and success person you need values first.
I love LFCDS because it is such an inspiring place to teach and learn. Every day, my colleagues find innovative ways to engage students in asking the big, important questions about our world. I see students working in teams, using design thinking to create projects that address authentic problems, and I see them working as individuals to hone original ideas and find their own voice. The students at LFCDS are developing the skills they need to navigate the social complexities of growing up in our digital age and approach sophisticated academic challenges with poise and confidence. It is thrilling to teach in an environment in which character really counts and, to a person, everyone demonstrates an unparalleled commitment to the social-emotional and intellectual growth of our young people. This is an amazing place!
Each day I come to teach at LFCDS, I feel so grateful to be a member of this community. Our school is committed to helping the individual child thrive through research-based curricular studies, support for the social-emotional development of each student, and providing space for innovative learning and exploring each and every day. Every stakeholder in our family school works together to provide a holistic education for our students, all who enter our front doors can feel the love of learning in every area of our building. I am supported professionally and have had many opportunities for professional development which continues to motivate me in my classroom teaching. This is an incredible place to be!
My children have thrived at LFCDS and continue to grow under the care and guidance of exceptional faculty and staff. Since joining the School, it has been incredible to see the ways my children have grown as inquisitive students - they have developed a curiosity for the world around them and a deep passion for learning. Likewise, the amount of time and attention the teachers give to helping my children gain emotional intelligence skills is invaluable and will continue to serve them for the rest of their lives. Our family is fortunate to have found a school with a strong sense of community that works together to provide amazing opportunities for the children. My children are known and loved and their teachers are keenly aware of their interests, strengths, challenges, and academic needs. As a faculty member myself, I can say with confidence that my children are truly receiving a world-class education and having fun while they do it!
My son started at LFCDS in preschool, and he is now in college. The preparation and individual attention he received while at LFCDS prepared him exceptionally well for the most rigorous coursework in high school and subsequently in college. In addition, at LFCDS he learned to advocate for himself with teachers and professors and to feel comfortable in seeking help from them when necessary – an invaluable life skill. Perhaps most remarkable is his comfort in speaking to and presenting in front of groups both large and small. LFCDS begins developing students’ presentation skills in preschool, and you can see their progression and growth as they move from grade level to grade level. In this tech age where many young people are only comfortable communicating via email or text, my son’s ability to communicate and present ideas effectively in front of an audience has differentiated him from his college peers.
As a prospective parent, I was amazed at the warmth and feeling of connection I experienced when I first walked through the school. Being able to see what was going on the classroom and to be able to talk to the teachers and ask questions directly of the adults that my child would be learning from was invaluable in making a decision to apply to the school. The teachers clearly knew their subject matter, but even more, they demonstrated their passion for education and their love for their students. After deciding to apply, I was very impressed with the ease at which we were ushered through the admission process. I have a four-year-old child, and I felt that the process was appropriate for his age, and I felt that every effort was made to put him at ease during the time he spent at the school.
Part of the mission at LFCDS “attention to individual needs”. As a parent of a senior kindergartner, this statement has been true across my daughters day. Every teacher that she interacts with has come to know and love her on a personal level, meeting her needs along the way. Not only do they work to know my child, but they have also each gone above and beyond to educate me as a parent. Because of their expertise and knowledge, I have also come to know and understand so much more about my own child in just one year. I could not ask for a better place for my child to learn and grow in while receiving daily attention to her individual needs from my colleagues.
I am an educator and parent of two LFCDS graduates. My children began their journey in preschool and continued through 8th grade. I am proud of the caliber of education they received at LFCDS. They are well prepared for their high school years and beyond. They are not only excelling in all of their academic courses but are valued students of character by teachers and peers. During their years at LFCDS, they were given life skills that they utilize today. They advocate for themselves, are motivated, and goal orientated. It was during my son’s freshman year of high school that confirmed for me I had made the right decision to send my children to LFCDS. For an English assignment, he wrote, “Home is a place where you feel comfortable to be yourself and live life. It’s a place where you grow up and grow into your own skin. It shapes you into who you are as a person. It’s where everyone knows your first and last name. It is a place where I belong. Home is LFCDS.”
As a member of the LFCDS faculty for the past eight years, I am amazed at the staff’s inspired teaching and dedication to each and every student in the school. I’ve had the privilege of working in different divisions in the school and I find the same sense of purpose from every grade level. The faculty and staff are passionate about their craft, and they continually strive to be the best they can be. The administration provides numerous opportunities for professional development and fosters an environment for life-long learning. I also appreciate the focus on social-emotional learning. Our school understands the importance of the development of the whole child and values its relationship with our families. We truly know and love our students. I couldn’t ask for a more supportive community. We are a family.
I joined the LFCDS community as an early childhood teacher ten years ago. I feel so fortunate that I am now also a member of this community as a parent. LFCDS is a school that values knowing and loving each child and I get to witness the love, care, and guidance that my daughter receives each day. LFCDS places an emphasis on social and emotional learning, a principle that aligns with my professional and parental philosophies. When I walk into school each day, I know and feel that I am part of an organization that supports students taking risks, asking questions, collaborating, innovating, and learning more about the people and world around us. What a gift this experience has been for our whole family!
My colleagues and I pledge to "know and love" each child, and forming lasting relationships with my students and their families is the best part of teaching at LFCDS. What a joy it is to have so many opportunities to connect with my eighth graders, helping them find their own inspiration and passions. Whether sharing discoveries in the lab, pulling toward a Farwell House tug-of-war victory, or traveling abroad together, I get to laugh and learn with my students each day. Our community truly understands and honors the adolescent journey, allowing our students to thrive as they unfold into young adults.
Lake Forest Country Day School is truly a special place. For the past fifteen years, I have dedicated my professional career to an institution which values inspired teaching and promotes optimal learning by implementing developmentally appropriate practice grounded in current research in child development. As a part of the parent community, I now see this sense of passion and purpose through the eyes of my own child. LFCDS has helped to establish a remarkable foundation in every aspect of my daughter’s social emotional and academic development. We are a school built upon the importance of community, where teachers know and love their students. I see my colleagues live our mission every single day. My daughter won’t remember every moment of her school experience at LFCDS, but she will remember how special her teachers made her feel.
LFCDS is an amazing school that truly meets the needs of their students. My three girls, with different learning styles and abilities, have earned an excellent education. However, their time at LFCDS not only allowed them an outstanding academic foundation but a sense of self-confidence and a desire to learn. All three of my children have been successful academically, socially, and emotionally as they continued through high school and college.
Our son started at LFCDS when he was in third grade and our only regret is that we didn't start him here in preschool. This has been the most wonderful experience for our son. The attention to individual needs is absolutely amazing. We feel each teacher knows and loves our child. The school feels like a true community, not only are all the students terrific but so are their families. We are impressed by the diversity and love that our son gets to meet people who don't only live in our community but from over 30 towns across the north shore.
I attended LFCDS for eight years and it was my home away from home. It was one of the most formative experiences of my childhood, so much so, that I plan to send my son here one day. The friendships I formed here are ones that I have kept for my entire life, and the academics and life skills will prepared me for a successful high school and college experience.
As an alumni of LFCDS, I can not say enough positive things about my experience at this institution. I attended LFCDS for 11 years, jk through 9th grade, and it helped shape who I am today. While a student, I felt like my teachers truly cared for me and my education. The friends I made during my years are still among some of my friends today. I could not be more grateful that I was fortunate enough to attend this fantastic school during my formative years.
It is a gift to teach at Lake Forest Country Day School. As a sixth-grade English teacher, I'm inspired daily by the people around me. Teachers at LFCDS are highly-creative and collaborative and I consistently learn from my colleagues. I have the autonomy to follow my students' interests year to year and feel incredibly supported by the administration as I incorporate new ideas into my teaching.
What an incredible school! I'm finishing my first year as a member of the LFCDS team and consider myself lucky to be part of a diverse community that is so authentic, connected, and inspired to provide meaningful learning experiences for its families. There is a unique spirit at LFCDS that is unlike anything I have encountered in my 10+ years working in independent schools. The faculty here is unbelievably dedicated to their craft. Students are active and engaged learners. Parents are supportive partners in their child's education. There is great joy and meaning coming to work every day!
We moved from Chicago to the burbs purely for LFCDS. We had toured most of the top schools in the city, and liked many of them, and then we looked at schools in the suburbs (near where my wife grew up of course). LFCDS was by far the most impressive school we visited. I was on the tour for 4 hours. I wanted to go back to school. The warmth of staff, parents and children was obvious. It was the 'hit list' of best practices for academics and social emotional development. It has been an amazing experience for my kids. My children are happy going to school every day and they have a passion for learning. The school has a knack for making academics challenging but fun. I cannot imagine a better school in the country.
We know LFCDS from friends. After several field visits to the school by us and our child, we decided to transfer to another LFCDS from another private secondary school a year ago. The experience at LFCDS has made us feel the humanity of this school and the cultivation of children in all aspects. We are a very correct decision for us to transfer our child to this school.
