Our family is in its ninth year at LCFDS. My wife and I are both public school kids. We never knew the advantages that a private independent day school experience can bring our kids. It has been the best decision we’ve ever made for them.
The academic rigor is intense, but there is generous support. In the upper school there is significant homework, but teachers are available and responsive throughout the day to help with questions and problems. There is no question our kids are pushed more academically than their friends in public schools.
LFCDS is a partnership between you, teachers and administration. Parents are welcomed into the school. There are countless volunteer opportunities for room parents, the parent association, and special events. You can be as involved as you’d like to be.
Our kids love school. They are in middle school, and they love going to school. What else needs to be said?!

From early childhood, lower school, and upper school LFCDS has offered an incredibly supportive learning environment for my children. The school has appropriately pushed my children academically and has also focused on social emotional skills. LFCDS provides opportunities for public speaking as early as kindergarten and now my children are confident and eloquent public speakers. In addition, they are comfortable and effective when they communicate with peers and with adults. They have learned how to organize their work, how to study, and how to advocate for themselves.
The teachers at LFCDS are the most impressive and caring educators around. They truly care for each and every one of their students and are able to get the most from them both academically and personally.

We’ve been part of the LFCDS community for nearly a decade and never cease to be amazed by how remarkable a place it is. It is a school that consistently honors its heritage and tradition while always exploring the boundaries of what is possible, all in the name of delivering an experience that challenges its students, supports its families, and facilitates a sense of belonging for everyone. We’ve seen it transition between spectacular Heads of School and Divisional leadership, guide us with grace and poise through the pandemic, and grow in meaningful programmatic and philosophical ways during our tenure, yet it still retains a feeling of home and connectedness that is distinct from any school we’ve attended/community we’ve been a part of. The new Head of School, John Melton, is superb and LFCDS well positioned to continue providing an education and experience that, to us, is second to none.
