My daughter has been at La Scuola for nearly 8 years. She has attended the pre-school, the elementary school and is now at the new middle school. Last year, we tried something different. We went to Italy for the year for a cultural experience. Simply stated, La Scuola totally prepared my daughter for her Italian 4th grade experience abroad. She had very few language issues due to La Scuola's wonderful language immersion. Her only struggle was that she was not excited about the pedagogy...they used lots of memorization. She missed the collaboration and team approach to learning. She even commented that they don't do science because they only memorize scientific facts. "It's not science if you are not doing experiments" she used to claim. She is excited to be back at La Scuola where the joy in learning is real and she can use both her heart and mind, not to mention getting her hands dirty in both the garden, art and science room!

There is no greater feeling than watching your child whine when it's NOT a school day! The environment of respect - for each other and the learning process - is paramount at La Scuola. With the help of tuition assistance, we've been part of the school through pre-school and we're well into elementary now. It's been a grand experience as a parent and thrilling to watch my daughter's learning capacity grow and grow. Proud to be part of this loving, growing environment.
La scuola is a magical place. Our children started in preschool and are now in elementary. The curriculum is a blend of the ‘learn by doing’ approach that is Reggio, which celebrates creativity, inquiry and play and the International Baccalaureate, which provides a framework through which to teach subjects in an interdisciplinary way- that is, contextually, rather than in a traditional ‘boxed by subject’ manner. Our kids are thinkers, questioners, curious, love school and to collaborate on projects with their peers. What I love most is the emphasis on language acquisition and cultural awareness as a path to creating empathic, culturally aware global citizens. These are buzz words in the Bay Area but I urge you to visit and see the classrooms at work to fully grasp that this school is really practicing what it preaches.
