From La Lumiere School

We believe that education involves the intentional formation of the entire person. And that’s a lofty endeavor. It starts with encountering every one of our students as individuals, each with a unique set of gifts and the same inherent worth. From that foundation, our small size and robust interpersonal culture enable us to forge unparalleled bonds—between classmates but also with faculty members—creating a learning environment where students can't help but invest wholeheartedly in their experience.

As an alum and an employee, I have had the pleasure of knowing and loving La Lumiere as a student and continuing to watch the school grow. The campus environment delighted me then and does so even more now. La Lumiere was the first and only K-12 school I attended where I was expected to be a thoughtful, curious, hard-working student, and where my teachers didn't settle for an okay performance, academically or personally. They invested in me as a human being, holding me accountable for being my best self. Academically, I finally had the chance to express my curiosity and intellect in a way that was not downplayed or shamed, and because my peers and I were always encouraged to dive deeper, I worked harder in and out of the classroom than ever before. I carry with me a profound appreciation for scholarship that was formed during my time at La Lumiere. Not only do I wish I could be a student forever—I wish I could go back and take classes at La Lumiere!

The community at La Lumiere School was the aspect I loved and appreciated most about La Lu. I was a day student and only lived five minutes away from school. However, many of my best friends were boarding students from all over the country as well as the world. Since many of the faculty members live on campus, there is a strong bond between the students and the faculty as well as the faculty's families. My favorite days as a student were the ones where I was there until 8:00 at night. My day would start out with school, followed by sports practice with my best friends. I would then stay for dinner and watch a basketball game or attend a club. As a college student, I feel very prepared for the classes and workload. Since La Lu is on the smaller side, I always felt like I was heard and was given opportunities to succeed, but I also felt challenged.
I love the community at this school! Everyone you come across is so kind and open to greet you! I love my classes as well! All my classes are enjoyable, but a lot of work as well.
