From La Jolla Country Day School

We inspire greatness for a better world. We believe that people who achieve greatness have a variety of remarkable qualities. However, four attributes appear most often: a strong work ethic; a moral compass; an ability to leverage resources and mentors; and a desire to challenge the status quo.

LJCDS identifies children of character who are willing to work hard to join our community. We will provide access to resources and mentors in a “what if” environment that surrounds your child with the greatest opportunity to achieve greatness.

Thumb’s up! LJCDS had a higher level of open-mindedness and flexibility than Bishop’s rigid program and arbitrary rules. Our child was above grade level in math and science and got an individualized 4-year program. The school incorporates current research on teaching/neuroscience into the curriculum (teaching mindfulness for stress management, for example). Our child became excited about school; the English teacher made Macbeth very exciting and AP calc was an adventure. The biology teacher took the time to get to know our child’s interests outside the classroom and designed a year-end project (at much extra effort on the teacher’s part) to incorporate them. No school is perfect, of course. We wanted a stronger computer science curriculum since this was our child’s future field, so we found programming classes elsewhere.

The opportunities at La Jolla Country Day are unparalleled. All students are encouraged to start new clubs on campus and get involved in the community. From artists to entrepreneurs to athletes to environmental activists to musicians, the majority of the students here are well-rounded and talented. Every teacher I have had has been amazingly supportive and caring about my academic growth and mental health. The faculty, administration, and student body are welcoming and kind, especially towards new students. I know that I will be prepared for college and I would highly recommend La Jolla Country Day School to anyone who wants to receive a phenomenal, one-of-a-kind education. There is nowhere else I would rather attend, and I wish I had attended this school since Tiny Torreys!
As a student I have to say I’m saddened by some of the reviews from my peers. LJCDS has proven to be a welcoming community for me and I have learned so much about myself in the environment LJCDS has created. Academically, my courses are challenging, my teachers are encouraging, my peers are inspiring and although things have may not seemed like they are perfect at times, attitude is everything. I’ve learned to push myself, overcome my own obstacles and have learned that in life, nothing is perfect. The world is a harsh place and I’m proud to be in a community where I’m accepted for my flaws, achievements and given the room to learn from my mistakes. Thanks you LJCDS!
