The school is definitely developing. Great new superintendent. Academics are not interactive, with a lot of short-term rote memorization. Wonderful band and choir programs and respective teachers. Many of the teachers make learning enjoyable and achievable. Several teachers excessively aid low-achieving students, enabling them to succeed without the required work. This works against true college preparation. The new facilities funded by the bond help and will continue to build school spirit and prestige. The newly implemented safety measures have been more of a hindrance than an asset to the students. I have witnessed students coming back from Religious Release and college classes that have to go around to the front in severely cold weather. I do believe that lunch is not long enough. Many students have to bring their lunch into class after lunch, end up not eating enough due to food restrictions in classrooms. Overall, La Grande High School is definitely improving.

While there were some excellent teachers here, LHS was often unorganized and unreasonable. It was unfriendly to students wanting to excel, and worked against me when I searched for greater challenge in my education.

AP choices are minimal at best, and GPA isn't weighted to offset the relative difficulty of AP courses. Many classes are populated with loud students and a long-broken teacher.

The lack of diversity in the school was largely a result of the town, which was almost entirely white and heavily conservative, leading to many LGBTQ students remaining in the closet.

I wasn't prepared for college. I spent much of my first year playing catch-up with people who'd learned to study because they'd taken difficult classes, and because they had a more complete understanding of foundational concepts. I didn't learn these things in high school. I didn't know how to appreciate an education.

Overall, despite the excellent educators, I would recommend against enrolling here.
I like that the teachers are always willing to help you when you do not understand something and also work with you to get everything done when you miss class. It is a very positive and fun environment. The thing that I would change is the direction that funding goes toward. I think some of it should be used to get up-to-date versions on subjects such as math and science. There should also be a better handling of the air-conditioning and heating throughout the seasons. Overall, the staff is a bunch of great people that you get along well with and are always there for you if you need anything. They really want to see you excel, and so they will go far and beyond to help you succeed and push you towards your greatest potential. The school feels like one big family that supports each other and will be there for each other.
