La Canada High School Reviews
Rating 3.68 out of 5 352 reviews
La Canada High school is a good school! The theatre department is amazing. There are so many resources such as teachers that are skilled in their subject, sets, and an abundance of costumes. The music departments are also wonderful and allow many chances for travel and performances, such as an orchestra performance in Carnegie Hall. It also provides many resources for its students. It also spreads awareness on mental health and illnesses and has a Wellness Centre for winding down or talking to a school therapist, one of which has a doctorate in family therapy. There's also a therapy dog that visits the school every Wednesday. Also, out of concern for the pandemic, the school started offering free lunches. There are also a vast selection of clubs or sports to join and the school has a scholarship program working with them, CSF. They also offer free counseling for classes to take. Overall, the school is very inclusive and supportive of all sexualities and ethnicities and pretty awesome.
I'll start off with the bullying: There is none. Everyone is nice and helpful to each other. The homework is a bit much but with some encouragement from parents, it's not all that bad. The teachers are extraordinary at explaining the class material and subjects and are always willing to help a student in need. But the school is not all work. La Canada High School also offers a plethora of sports teams and clubs, most of which are run by the community or students. As a student with ADD (ADHD Innatentive), staying focused has been a bit difficult. Luckily, the teachers are nice and give me extra time to complete assignments or tests. Now onto the food! The cafeteria offers a variety of food, usually with different menus each day. There's also a wide variety of drinks and snacks in the Cafe.
La Canada High School is a very academically rigorous school. This can be to the benefit or detriment of students, as this academic environment produces a school culture where competition among the students is one of the few consistent elements.
However, if one can find a small group of genuine friends, there can be an escape from that rat-race like culture. In addition, various efforts from the administration are being made to change this culture into one where it is more collaborative than competitive. However, these efforts will likely have to be made on a larger scale and over longer periods of time before they begin to change the school culture.
LCHS is privileged enough to benefit from a large foundation funded by parents, and as a result it avoids many of the problems with funding that other schools near the LAUSD district deal with.
Overall, LCHS is a great high school to attend, but beware of the ideas about college one might internalize from going there.
