Great school spirit culture/atmosphere to learn in. Has the feel of a public yet private school. The majority of students are really smart kids who get into high-ranking colleges. The small town feel of the Kirkwood community itself compared to the greater St. Louis area can seem a little sheltered at times, but it’s very friendly. It’s a bigger school, but the faculty does a great job of knowing each of their students by name, and they set aside time for students to help with academics. This is also a good faculty if you need letters of recommendation for college, and there is a huge alumni network. Overall, don’t waste your money on a private school education when you can get it at Kirkwood! It has a great regional reputation as well as strong academic programs. It is a great platform for students interested in going into journalism or business or the world of professional athletics. I would definitely recommend Kirkwood High School!
Kirkwood High School builds such an amazing community, and the staff really wants the students to succeed. Both teachers and administrators provide so many resources to help us thrive and to set up a promising future. I love Kirkwood High School and would readily recommend it to anyone in St. Louis looking for a good school district!
I'm an education policy researcher. We bought a home in Kirkwood specifically due to the school district’s excellent reputation & public/private school data (via DESE, etc.) I reviewed before our Missouri move.
Kirkwood High School exceeded our expectations. The teachers & school leaders are top-notch: they are clearly invested in both the craft of teaching & the data that informs how well their approach is impacting kids.
I’ll add that in ed. research, the first thing I examine isn’t how well “top” kids are doing – the most telling measure of a great school is how well they teach student groups that have been historically under-served. As a data nerd, I was impressed at KHS’s thoughtful, professional, data-driven work to close ability/race/income “achievement gap” – it’s not always a top focus in affluent districts.
And my own kids? They loved the school, and were well prepared for college. Big thanks to KHS principals & teachers for a great experience!
