KIPP STAR encouraged me to be a leader when no one was watching. 5th-8th grade I competed with myself as I fought away bad habits to build better ones. I progressed from being a boy who didn't believe in his own potential, to understanding that I can really create the life I desire for myself and for those around me. My years at KIPP STAR encouraged me to dig deep and find my strengths because they make me who I truly am. I grew confidence that fostered a drive to be a better me. As a middle schooler, that meant focusing on what's right and analyzing what was wrong; it meant being mindful so I wouldn't allow the obstacles of life defeat me in my conquests; it meant influencing others to push themselves pass expectations that deemed to be mediocre. KIPP STAR was a very crucial blossoming point in my life because it instilled in me a mindset that could not be fixed but instead be improved upon by involving myself in challenging situations that demanded the best from me. I am thankful!
The education there is very good. But when it comes to safety and staff taking good action for a serious matter, it isn't a good school. The staff don't take action until the situation gets worst. The clubs and education and programs are excellent though. There is diversity but not much, most students are either African or Hispanic, and the teachers are either white or black. The students share a gym and auditorium so that can be a lot of work sometimes even though there are elevators, only the teachers are allowed to use them.
KIPP STAR College Prep Charter School was a great school for me and for a lot of my peers. It gave a lot of people the opportunity to receive a better education and a chance to go to college, especially for the minority dominated population in our school, who were mostly coming from low- income household. Still to this day, KIPP sticks with me through a program Calle KIPP Through College Program, which aids college students or students who took other path to keep making good decisions and to eventually help them become successful. Without KIPP, I am not exactly sure what I would do or where I will be. Im currently at Robert Wesleyan College on an academic and athletic scholarship and that was with the help of KIPP and it staff
